Your burden is your gift

We all have moments in life that we wish something were different. If only… I wish… Too bad I can’t… It’s a shame that… We’re human. It happens. Whatever your upbringing, whatever your moral code, wherever you came from, those if-only’s will pop up from time to time.

It’s what you do with them that counts.

The diseases, allergies, sensitivities, health issues I’ve gone through could definitely be considered a burden. I could quite justifiably sit in the role of a victim, someone who has suffered, someone who has gone or does go through these trying times. I could whine about what I can’t eat, can’t drink, can’t do….but what does that accomplish?

decided to focus on the gifts that these ordeals have brought to my life.

  • I’m healthier now than I’ve ever been.
  • I’ve learned more about food and nutrition than I ever would have.
  • I’m a better cook.
  • I know how to bake bread now, and I’m actually good at it.
  • My children are healthier, know how recognize what food does to their bodies, and can make their own informed decisions about what they put in their bodies even when away from me.
  • I have the knowledge and experience to teach and help others with their health.
  • It inspired my gardens.
  • It inspired my recipe collection.
  • It inspired this blog.
  • It inspired all the things I’m now so passionate about.

No matter how big the burden, there is something somewhere that can be seen as a positive, or a gift. No matter how small the positive or the gift, it can grow into something more. It can become that thing that gets you through. It can be the thing that makes it all not so bad after all.

And when things aren’t so bad after all, then there is hope. And what more can we ask for but Hope.
